Once Upon a Time

Santa Cruz Ca 2005
Once upon a time there was the gym that could. It was located in Santa Cruz Ca and there was a family that trained there. It was a beautiful place the temperature was allways a cool 74 degrees and athletes and trainers traveled there from far and wide. Each and every time you stepped on the pavement you knew magic would happen. Annie S, Tony B, Nicole, Mike, Greg A, B-Boy Brendon Coach and Lauren would be there to cheer you on.

This only happens once in a lifetime! Crossfit

Young Spirit!

Jackson is my nephew and he is a wild man! Yes he is!!!!! Jackson is none stop he gets super jacked up when there is a lot of people around! It is an awesome sight to see. He is so young he doesn't know what to do with his energy so he just freaks out. In a good way he runs, jumps, swings screams he actually looks a lot like his uncle Jeremy. I look forward to the day I will help him channel his energy into Crossfit Kids and many other life altering experiences.

Get some Jackson! By the way he is 3 and his birthday is on the same day as mine October 5th!

Getten Some!

This past weekend I performed in the all cities open hosted by Crossfit Dallas Central. First off I wanted to say it was a great event Sam, Dean, and Spencer of CFDC are all fantastic guys and you should definitely go by their box if you live or travel through Dallas TX.

Vic Zachary posted in the photo above did a great job this weekend! He is an impressive athlete a great guy and has a heart of gold.

One thing that the competitive Crossfit community continues to see is a constantly varied scoring method for competitions. I think scoring is one of the most unknown variables across the board at competitions. The more I compete the more I realize the place you come in can not determine your emotional and mental attitude towards the event and your outcome.
A few variables to gauge
1. How did you feel.
2. Are you in your best shape not compared to others around you.
3. What is your outcome goal.
4. Did you have fun!

After three National International Crossfit Games which year had the best scoring relative to the events?

Legacy

2009 is ending and 2010 is right around the corner. I always look back on the year and reflect on my past goals and look to the future. In the month of December I take 4 weeks to map out my plans for the next 12 months. I look at three areas 1. personal/spiritual 2. professional 3. physical/fitness and health.
Over the last four years one of the biggest lesions I have learned is commitment and consistency. I definitely screw up but I always get back on the horse. The slight edge!

The Maiden Heist movie featuring my painting is out on DVD

The movie The Maiden Heist (featuring my painting "The Lonely Maiden") starring Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and William H. Macy is available now on DVD. The whole painting was somewhat invented, including the girl painted by combining Marcia Gay Harden who plays Roger's (C. Walken) wife, with LA model Toni Czechorosky.
In the movie you can see some extreme close ups of the painting, here are a couple shots I took before sending the painting off to the set. Because the painting was supposed to be painted by fictitious painter (Marcel de Robert) belonging to a fictitious late 19th century painting movement (Post French Naturalist) I wanted the paint to be thicker and look more layered than my own paintings and look a little more like the Naturalist painters. I had a limited amount of time to complete the piece so I used Galkyd Lite medium to minimize the drying time. See my older post where I talk a little more about creating the painting for the movie.

Revolution

I just left my 530am Tuesday Thursday Boot Camp at Deep Eddy. I turned on the radio and this song was on(video). My heart began to sing and dream of a revolution. But quickly the clip from fight club comes into mind.

WE all live for a purpose greater then our selves some of us find it some of us search for eternity.

I think a big secret to success is seeing the invisible aka potential vision and not letting anyone take that away from you.

The Engine

Everyone has dreams.....right? I have lots of dreams. I am working daily to achieve my goals and chipping a way at large dreams I see in the future. This brings me to another question. If I dont have the capacity to achieve my dreams because the my mind, work ethic, or desire do not meet the demands of the task is it impossible to reach my larger goals?

I have the same question for a crossfitter. Many people want to train for the crossfit games but they might not have the engine to get them there. Their body might not have the capacity to perform under the demands of 8 crossfit workouts in two days. So the question is does the person have the wrong goals or do they need to figure out a way to make it happen?

This is why I believe everyone needs a coach or a mentor in their lives. What do you think?

A Business Man

I had the honor of attending the Jay-Z concert in Austin Texas last night with three of my best friends. Jay-Z has had a huge impact on my professional life. I listen to Jay-Zs music not just because its the best. I learn all kinds of business skills from his rhymes. His energy and passion for excellence is all over his work. We come from different back grounds but I relate to his struggle and hustle.

St. Patrick's Breastplate

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through the belief in the threeness,
Through the confession of the oneness
Of the Creator of Creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth with his baptism,
Through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial,
Through the strength of his resurrection with his ascension,
Through the strength of his descent for the Judgment Day.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love of Cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels,
In hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In prayers of patriarchs,
In predictions of prophets,
In preaching of apostles,
In faith of confessors,
In innocence of holy virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock.

I arise today
Through God's strength to pilot me:
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's host to save me
From snares of demons,
From temptations of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone and in multitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and those evils,
Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.

Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that there may come to me abundance of reward.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness,
Of the Creator of Creation.

To the Competition

Many people think competition is out there. Some one with a business or a product similar to your own. This is not true the biggest competition or obstacle is your mind or your limited belief or vision in self.

I will beat my mind into shape just like Mike!

Passion

Passion - is an emotion applied to a very strong feeling about a person or thing. Passion is an intense emotion compelling feeling, enthusiasm, or desire for something. The term is also often applied to a lively or eager interest in or admiration for a proposal, cause, or activity or love.

I turned 28 years old on October 5th 2009. I have always questioned why people were successful? I really didnt know but this morning I woke up with a word ringing in my ears PASSION. I dont think this is the only reason why but I think it is one of the underlying reasons why.

The reason it resonates so well with me today I feel I had lost much of my passion for what I was doing in life. Not just Crossfit related but in many aspects of my life. I have faked it for quiet sometime this past year but it all has caught up to me....................

I have been praying a lot this past week and my God reminded me of his passion and why I am here. I am making vows this day that I will hold close to my heart and my God.

Peace and Love

Paparazzi

Crossfit Central Thursday morning during the rain. Rain is an interesting topic in Austin. We were in extreme drought for the year and still are but it has been raining a lot the past month.

What is the saying...... when in rains in pours.

Well its seems to be the same in every aspect of life. Is it raining + or - in your life.

Unorthodox

What would it be like to go to a place no one has ever gone before. Do you have the vision to see your dreams come true? Are you looking at your life and challenging your self.

These are all questions I am asking myself. It is time to break from the pack.

Blood Sweat and Many Tears.....

CrossFit Central is a great success story, with membership over 500 and revenue approaching $100,000 per month. Jeremy Thiel explains how he was able to use passion, commitment and great service to create a profitable business—and a community.

I founded CrossFit Central along with my sister, Carey Kepler, back in 2006. We were the 150th affiliate, and we were starting from scratch—no clients, no box and no credibility. But we had a mission: to build a fit community and affect people’s lives.

Since affiliating in 2006, CrossFit Central has grown from zero paying clients to over 500. We are profitable and remain debt-free in a time when our economy is failing. We have 22 coaches and a staff of four people earning incomes ranging from $35,000 to $85,000. On average, 20-30 new people sign up each month, and we are changing lives daily.

Is it hard starting an affiliate? Yes, it’s tough. But CrossFit.com gives us a vehicle to promote what we do, and without it I wouldn’t have as much credibility as I do now. Greg and Lauren Glassman gave me the confidence to take people to the trough. I put my belief in the community as opposed to me being the go-to expert. CrossFit.com is the expert, and I lead my clients there.

I don’t believe there’s only one right way to run and operate a CrossFit affiliate, and that’s the beauty of this business. The systems we’ve developed work and are the best for us and our clients. That said, our route to success might help you find your own.

Blink Blink Tick Tick

This past weekend Crossfit Central put 100+ folks through FGB 4. Crossfit Central with 2 other affiliates raised $31k Wow what a weekend?

So with such a huge event it took a lot of people to help set it up and coordinate and make it happen so first off thank you to all who helped!

Lucky me on Tuesday I started coming down with flu like symptoms. Body aches, chills headache, the sweats, sleepy your getting very sleepy type of symptoms. I didnt really have time for them but they seemed to have a louder voice then my will to push through. Fast forward to Friday the day before the event I was in bed all day going through sweating fits leaving my whole bed soaked through to the mattress.

I ended up making it out on Saturday morning but didnt get to do the coaches workout challenge. I felt 65% myself through the event but gave it my all.

The reason why I wrote this blog was to state the realization I had. Giving your self to others via Crossfit Coaching is no joke when it comes to energy and passion. God seems in my life to allways punch me in the gut when I need to learn something.

Ever chance to coach is a gift every chance to share your passion with others is a gift. Respect it or lose it.

Re - Post from Crossfit Chronicles Blog

The CrossFit Journal has a new article, Part One of the series "Centers of Excellence" focuses on CrossFit Calgary and Part Two will focus on CrossFit Central. Of the entire global CrossFit community, Mark Warkentin lists these two as affiliates that lead the way. James "OPT" Fitzgerald and APT lead the way in Calgary. CrossFit Central's Jeremy Thiel and Carey Kepler does the same for their respective affiliate.
  • How are these affiliates differ from other affiliates?
  • What do they do to separate themselves from the field?
  • Does it help to have Games participants as coaches?
  • Are these affiliates more strict with their clientele?
  • Do they approach CrossFit with Coach Glassman's intent, the Sport of Fitness?
  • Do they keep more empirical (and thus, referenceable) client data?
  • How much does leadership play a role?
  • Do former collegiate athletes have a coaching advantage?
As CrossFit continues the transition into recognized spectator sport, an affiliate's prominence may likely be based upon how successfully they embrace CrossFit training as preparation for competition (local, regional or international). Of course, there will always be clients who will never pursue competition, yet still, they will follow the trend of inching toward competition-readiness. There must be a correlation between competition-proven coaches and the affiliate's perceived excellence, right? I loved CrossFit before, but then I competed in the regional qualifier and that experience did more for my affinity and motivation than the previous year of daily WOD's combined. There is a passion that can be attributed to an individual who has faced the humility of CrossFit competition. With that comes the wish to see the same transformation in their clients and/or peers.

As CrossFit continues the transition into recognized spectator sport, Affiliates may focus more on cultivating CrossFit athletes for the sport of CrossFit, itself. Intensity, passion and improved G.P.P. of the client-base will surely follow. Just my thoughts.

Life

A true test. The hill run at the 2009 Crossfit Games was incomparable to any other workout I had done in my entire life. You couldn't really see anyone or hear anything. All you knew was the finish line was up there some where. If you can see the finish line its the cone in front of Mikko Salo *(1st place at the games). The last ten feet was the most challenging part.

I love how Mikko is chillin watching us finish. Yes he was in my heat and yes I know I have a big mouth.

Burn baby Burn

It probably happens about once or twice a year. I catch on fire! People ask me all the time how did Crossfit Central blow up so fast?! I all ways laugh inside and then give a silly answer like we work hard and show up. That is an understatement. We work hard year round building up clients, free workouts, body assessments you name it, the Works.

Consistency is the key to success but every once in a while we step back and rip it. MASSIVE ACTION CURES EVERY THING! I cant claim I came up with this but I have learned to apply it. I am in a period of masses action but now I have a team of 24 + strong dedicated Coaches ready to rip across Austin Texas and the Nation!
